Wesley House: Serve It Forward

Let me tell you about Wesley House Community Services, an organization that’s been making a difference in Louisville for over a century. It all started back in April 1903 when the Woman’s Missionary Society of the Louisville Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church South established the Louisville Settlement Home. Just a few months later, they set up shop in a ten-room brick building on East Jefferson Street, and that’s where the journey began.

Wesley House has changed a lot since then, adapting to the needs of the community. What started as sewing clubs, Scout activities, and summer camps has evolved into a wide range of programs aimed at helping low-income families in some of Louisville’s most challenged neighborhoods. Today, you’ll find Wesley House in a former United Methodist Church on Preston Highway, still serving the community with the same dedication, just with a broader focus.

Their goal is to be the leading family services center along the Preston corridor, offering programs for everyone—children, teens, adults—and working to push for policy changes that help create equity, especially for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) in our city.

What makes Wesley House special is its commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive community. They don’t just provide resources—they empower people. From early childhood education to adult programs, they’re helping people not just survive but thrive. And it’s not just about the services they offer—it’s about the impact they have, thanks to a compassionate team and the generosity of their supporters. Wesley House is really about creating lasting change, and if you get involved, you’ll see firsthand the incredible difference they’re making.

Our Impact on the Future

Through the generosity of our community and our shared passion for spreading the love of sports, we recently donated 250 pieces of tennis equipment to the kids at Wesley House. Altogether, this equipment is worth around $10,000 when you consider the quality of the racquets, and it’s going to make a real difference in these kids’ lives.

At Wesley House, tennis isn’t just a game—it’s an opportunity. These kids now have access to gear that will let them get out on the court, learn new skills, and enjoy the benefits of being active. But it’s more than just exercise. Tennis is teaching them teamwork, discipline, and confidence, all while giving them a positive outlet in a safe, supportive environment. Whether it’s their first time picking up a racket or they’ve already fallen in love with the sport, this donation is opening doors for them to grow, challenge themselves, and have fun.

We’re proud to partner with Wesley House to give these kids the tools they need to succeed, both on and off the court. This is exactly why Play It Forward exists—to empower the next generation through the gift of athletics. And this is just the beginning!
